Dameans Gear Up for Orlando 2027 with U.S. Visa Orientation

Practical guidance, shared experiences, and alumni solidarity take center stage as Dameans prepare for their much-awaited reunion in Orlando, Florida.

In preparation for the 17th Biennial International Reunion in Orlando, Florida, on May 13–16, 2027, the Notre Dame Schools of General Santos City Alumni Association International, Inc. conducted a special Zoom orientation on October 30, 2026, for Dameans who intend to apply for U.S. visitor visas and participate in the much-anticipated gathering.

The online session was conducted by Association President Orman Manansala, who walked participants through the important considerations in preparing for a U.S. B1/B2 visitor visa interview. The discussion focused on helping applicants understand the interview process, anticipate common questions, organize their supporting documents, and confidently communicate the purpose of their intended visit.

Adding invaluable insights to the discussion were three former Association Presidents — Prima Guipo Hower, Lanie Zerrudo Gammon, and Lulut Palacios Chan — who generously shared their experiences, practical advice, and personal tips on navigating the U.S. visa application and interview process.

Their participation underscored the spirit of alumni solidarity and the continuing commitment of past and present leaders to support fellow Dameans in achieving a shared goal.

Joining the 23 Dameans who participated in the orientation were Vice President Pat de Leon Matthews and Board of Directors member Ruben Tugari, whose presence further highlighted the Association’s support for members preparing for the Orlando reunion.

Preparing with Confidence

Among the key topics discussed were the importance of establishing strong ties to the Philippines, demonstrating the ability to finance the intended trip, explaining one’s travel purpose, and responding honestly and consistently to questions from the consular officer.

Special attention was also given to questions relating to family circumstances, employment or business commitments, travel history, financial capacity, accommodation arrangements, and the planned duration of stay.

The orientation emphasized that applicants should understand their own circumstances and be prepared to explain them clearly and truthfully. Rather than memorizing scripted answers, Dameans were encouraged to be natural, honest, and confident during their interviews.

One Reunion, One Notre Dame Family

Beyond the technicalities of visa applications, the Zoom orientation reflected something much deeper — the enduring bond that brings the Notre Dame family together, wherever its members may be.

The Orlando 2027 International Reunion is more than just a gathering. It is an opportunity for Dameans from different generations, schools, and parts of the world to reconnect, celebrate their shared heritage, renew friendships, and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood.

The Association recognizes that obtaining a U.S. visa is an individual application process, with every applicant evaluated on their own merits. Nevertheless, through information-sharing, guidance, and the collective experiences of its alumni leaders, the Association hopes to help members approach the process better informed and better prepared.

As the countdown to Orlando 2027 continues, the message to all Dameans is simple: Prepare well, travel with purpose, and come home to the Notre Dame family!

For the benefit of other Dameans preparing for their U.S. visa interviews, the presentation used during the October 30 Zoom orientation is being shared below as a reference and preparation guide.

See you in Orlando, Dameans!
